Spain Trip: Day 1

My wife, Tess, and I were suppose to go to Malaysia this time of the year. She to participate in a conference, and I to tag along, and then go on a side trip to Burma afterwards. Something went awry and she opted not to go. Since we already set aside the vacation time, we decided to set our sights to a place we've always dreamed of going -- Spain.

We have so many places and things we want to see and do in Spain but in the end we narrowed down our plans to a three-week stay in southern Spain - Costa del Sol - then a 3-day layover in Madrid on the way back home. The idea is to immerse ourselves in the local culture and just relax. We rented a condo in a small coastal town outside of Málaga - Caleta de Velez. From there we will drive around to sightsee and experience the Spanish hospitality. We will also take a trip to Tangier,  Morocco and a pilgrimage to Fatima, Portugal.

To get ready, in addition to booking flights, the condo, and the hotels in Madrid and Lisbon, we made a list of the things we want to experience in Costa del Sol. I also signed us up in an online crash course in Castillan Spanish from Unibersitat Politechnica de Valencia. I think we know enough Spanish to get by, after all we survived our trip to Peru last year, but as we all know Spanish has regional variances and we wanted to get acquainted with the version from the motherland.

We are so excited. I will attempt to do a daily blog of our trip and I invite you all to join us. Getting ready to board the first leg of our trip: Honolulu to LA. Vamanos!
